Kenya Invests $51 Million in Kitengela Affordable Housing Projects

Kenya is set to invest KSh 6.6 billion ($51 million) in two major affordable housing projects in Kitengela, Kajiado County, supporting the continued expansion of the country’s construction and housing sector.

 
The projects will deliver 2,850 affordable residential units under the government’s Affordable Housing Program (AHP), with one development being implemented by the municipality and the other within the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector.
 
The Kitengela developments are part of Kenya’s broader KSh 50.6 billion ($391 million) Affordable Housing Program allocation for FY2026/27, which is aimed at accelerating residential construction and increasing the supply of affordable homes across the country.
 
Kenya’s housing construction pipeline continues to expand. By the end of May 2026, 277,281 housing units had either been completed or were under construction nationwide, according to Treasury data. More than one million Kenyans had also registered on the Boma Yangu platform, highlighting strong demand for affordable housing.
 
The new Kitengela projects are expected to generate further construction activity, create employment opportunities and contribute to the growth of Kenya’s residential development sector.
