South Africa to launch First phase of Isithebe Industrial Park

South Africa is set to launch the first phase of the US$ 4m Isithebe Industrial Park revitalization soon. This is one of ten industrial parks that have been prioritized by the Department of Trade and Industry for upgrading under its Industrial Parks Revitalization Programme.

Trade and Industry Minister Dr. Rob Davies confirmed the report in a statement and said that work on the first phase will include several things like security infrastructure upgrade, fencing, street lighting and critical electricity requirements among others.

“The first phase of Isithebe Industrial Park includes the security infrastructure upgrade, fencing, street lighting and critical electricity requirements but in the case of Isithebe, we have also upgraded the roofs of some of the factories within the industrial park,” said Dr. Davies.

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs Sihle Zikalala also commented about the park and said that the Isithebe Industrial Estate was one of the biggest in KwaZulu-Natal which accommodates many industries and factories that have so far contributed to the growth of the provincial economy and that industries operating from Isithebe contributed extensively to the economy of the area, providing 15 000 to 20 000 jobs.

“The fact that so much investment is being put into this estate is not only a vote of confidence in the growth prospects of the economy of the province, but testifies to the fact that, we as government have placed reindustrialization at the peak of our list of priorities in order to grow the economy and create employment,” said Mr. Zikalala.

According to the report by the Trade and Industry Ministry, the first phase of revitalisation at the Free State-based Botshabelo Industrial Park, costing US$ 2m, and the US$ 1.5m Seshego Industrial Park, were completed earlier this year.
