Kenya: Lonyangapuo Wants Cement Factory Built

West Pokot Senator John Lonyangapuo has given an investor three months to start building a cement factory whose foundation stone was laid at Sebit four years ago.

Cemtech Sanghi Group Company bought 650 acres on freehold for Sh120 million for the project.

Lonyangapuo said the Sh12 billion project has taken too long to start.

He said the investor has been promising to start the construction since 2011, but he has not showed up.

"We are now giving him until January 1, 2016 to start the work," Lonyangapuo said.

He was speaking on Sunday when county leaders toured the site.

Lonyangapuo said the factory is projected to create more than 3,000 jobs.

He said the factory will stimulate other projects in infrastructure, health, water and education, as 25 per cent of the profits earned will remain in the county.
