Ethiopia: ERA Signs Road Contracts Worth Br2 Billion

Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) has signed agreements with two contractors for the construction and upgrading of various roads in Oromia and South Ethiopia Peoples' states.

The road projects that cover a total of 111.3km distance will consume 2.15 billion Birr, of which 1.2 billion will be covered with loan secured from the World Bank. The balance will be covered from government coffers.

The contract for construction of a 48.3km road in South Ethiopia Peoples' State has been awarded to Hunan Huanda Road and Bridge Corporation of China.

According to the agreement, the project, estimated to cost 949 million Birr, has to be finalized within 29 months.

The second project to upgrade the 63km Ambo- Walliso road in Oromia State has been accorded to two Spanish companies working in joint venture.

The project is estimated to consume 1.2 billion Birr to be covered with loan secured from the World Bank.
